Interviews are a great way to market your book. It is a personal way for others to get to know you and your work. It’s more than advertisements. Interviews are ways to reach out and connect with readers. They open the door for authors that otherwise are never discovered. Plus it gives the author a chance to talk with their mouth instead of their fingers.

Online Interviews

Most interviews today are done online compared to the old days when they were done via radio or life on television. It is easy to interview anywhere around the world. The world is a lot smaller these days.

Check out which blogs do interviews. There are even some online radio shows that do them. Check them out and see if they are interested in interviewing you and your writing. Ask around on your social media platforms. There is always someone looking for another person to interview.

Local Media

We all forget the local media. It is a powerful marketing tool that gets missed because it is not in the mainstream for small publishers or new authors. The local media isn’t just there for the big publishing houses and the Pulitzer Prize winning novels. It is there for you as well.

What is talked about in your local newspaper, TV show, or radio broadcast? It is mostly local news. You are a local figure, so you need to reach out to them. Send your press kit out to the local newspaper. Send it to the local morning show or talk radio. Most of these media outlets love new local news. Give it to them.

Small is a Start

You don’t have to look at the New York Times or other such large newspapers. Look at the smaller local ones. They are all connected. They share info and articles. You never know when larger ones will see it, but for now starting small doesn’t hurt you. It can only help you.

The famous authors we know of didn’t start off in the Big Leagues. They started off small and grew into the larger arenas. Why shouldn’t you do the same?

Be Polite

I can never stress enough that you should always be polite. When looking for interviews, be polite. Haven’t you heard that you can attract flies better with honey than with vinegar…
